A two day course designed to upskill and refresh on the finer points of trad climbing anchors and placements and basic rope rescue skills needed in a multi-pitch environment.
Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th April 2025
8am - 5pm
NZAC Member (non members are welcome to apply but must join the NZAC in order to be accepted onto the course - there are no exceptions)
Under 18 must have parental/guardian permission and must be at least 16 to attend.
At a minimum you must know how to top rope belay without a gri gri.
This course is NOT a beginner’s course and at a minimum, you must have done the basics of trad lead climbing or recent trad course and follow-up days and know how to lead belay and abseil.
Multi-directional trad anchors and trad placements
Transfer the belay
Release a top loaded belay (escape the belay)
Tandem abseil
Simple hoist
Troubleshooting.
Harness (please provide)
Rock shoes (please provide)
Chalk bag (optional)
Climbing helmet (can be provided if requested)
Belay device with guide mode and large locking biner (can be provided if requested)
Safety/Anchor chain and small locking biner (can be provided if requested)
Short prusik (1.3m total untied length) and small locking biner (can be provided if requested)
Long prusik (can be provided if requested)
2 x 120cm sewn or untied slings (can be provided if requested)
2 x snapgate (can be provided if requested)
1 x screwgate biners (can be provided if requested)
Equipment can be purchased at Aspiring Safety, Bivouac or Further Faster and all give NZAC members discounts.
$250 will cover two full day plus instruction, Ropes, Trad Racks, Quickdraws and Top set-ups and any of the equipment listed free of charge if requested.
A full refund will only be given for genuine reason if withdrawing from the course and if we have enough time to find a replacement for your spot
