This year’s Dunedin Adventure Weekend was a bit more low-key than usual, with a handful of late withdrawals leaving us a small but mighty crew.
Most of us rolled in on Friday evening to calm weather and a decent forecast for the next day. After settling in a few people wandered down for a couple of quick routes before dark.
Saturday delivered the goods—blue skies, dry rock, and good vibes all around. You really can’t beat Long Beach on a good day! We split into loose groups and headed down to the crag, with most people heading to the Pinnacle and the Caves. Our group might have been small but there were plenty of locals out enjoying the beautiful day. Everyone got plenty of laps in without any major dramas. By late afternoon we were happily knackered and wandered back to the community hall for a potluck dinner and BBQ. We had a great evening with way too much food even with a couple of friends joining us from Dunedin to help eat everything! We made the starlight walk down the beach in hopes of spotting a few penguins, but the ‘find’ of the mission ended up being some bioluminescence along the shore on the return.
Sunday arrived with a shift in weather, but spirits remained high and we wandered back out to the main wall to see what we could squeeze in before being rained out. Despite the increasingly damp rock, we managed to get up a few good routes before calling it a day in the afternoon. Not the bluebird finish we hoped for, but definitely still worth the trip down.
All in all, it was a brilliant weekend: nice group, good climbing, and all the comforts of home in the well-equipped community hall. Already looking forward to next year. See you back at the beach!
