Our online NZAC climbing community aims to connect members of NZAC with other climbers and mountaineers. Groups are created in WhatsApp and you can choose what you would like to be apart of. These groups provide a space to share mid week climbing, trip plans, conditions updates, safety information, socials, club updates and general climbing chatter.
Whether you're looking for partners, advice or inspiration, or just a friendly community of like minded people the NZAC's online space make it easy to connect with others who share a passion for the rock and mountains. The only stipulation is you MUST be a current member of NZAC and the group is aimed at people in the Canterbury Westland region.
There are three main groups you can choose to join:
Join our midweek climbing crew for a variety of local climbing opportunities year-round. Whether you're up for a quick indoor post-work session or you're eager to hit the hills for some outdoor rock action, we've got you covered.
Register below to receive regular WhatsApp messages detailing session specifics. Plus, you can use the group to plan your own climbing adventures anytime, including weekend trips. There are over 150 in the community so there's always someone looking for a catch.
Through winter our group has migrated indoors and are meeting at the Adventure Centre every Tuesday evening from 6pm. The first and third Tuesdays of every month are pizza nights so come along for a climb then stick around for yarns and a pizza!
We're always looking for more people to get involved in running sessions. You don't need to be an instructor or a guide, just someone with a passion for bringing people together and some knowledge of local crags. Organisers do not provide any guiding or instruction and individuals within the group are responsible for their own safety whilst taking part in climbing activities. If you're keen to get involved or have any questions please email Dom.
Helmets are compulsory while climbing and belaying.
If abseiling, use a prusik as a backup and tie a knot in the end of the rope
Use clear commands and discuss the plan before the climber leaves the ground
If in doubt, ask questions
Speak up if you see something you aren't sure or happy about
Be safe and have fun!
